Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint: comic or novel first?

Two print lines, same story, different pace. What each one is, how far along it is in English, what it costs, and whether the Korean original is finished.

The short version

Start with the comic: 11 full-color volumes are out (all 13 listed come to $260 at list), it follows the webtoon the anime is based on, and the story is the same. Buy the novel if you want the original prose — but know that the English novel is only at volume 4 of a Korean run collected in 23, so the ending is not in English print yet either way.

Counts, dates and prices come from the publisher's title pages (label V) and are recomputed on every build. Korean status is cited from the platforms' own listings. Story notes come from the publisher's descriptions and the digital originals; no physical copies were inspected.

01

The two print lines

Both are published by Ize Press, which is why retailers blur them. The comic is the full-color print of the webtoon; the novel is the original web novel, black and white, with the narrator's interior voice the comic has to externalize.

03

Which one, for whom

  • You want the most story in print right now: the comic. 11 volumes against the novel's 4, and new volumes have arrived about every three months since Dec 12, 2023.
  • You are reading ahead of the anime: the comic. The adaptation announced by Crunchyroll and Aniplex follows the webtoon; press reports put it in a 2027–2028 window, with no date fixed.
  • You want Kim Dokja's narration and the version the webtoon adapts: the novel. It is the original, and the publisher's description leads with the reader-who-knows-the-ending premise the comic has to show rather than tell.
  • You want to own the ending: neither, yet. The Korean novel is complete (23 collected volumes), but the English novel has 5 volumes listed and the comic 13. Buying either is buying into a run in progress.

04

What the Korean original says

The webtoon is listed as ongoing at 313 episodes on Naver Webtoon; Korean comics press reported on May 24, 2026 that its first season concluded after 311 chapters. So the comic's source is paused between seasons, not finished.

The novel's serialized listing on Naver Series keeps growing with side stories (1068 entries, listed 미완결), while the collected edition on the same platform is complete at 23 volumes — that is the finished main story. Neither the publisher nor the platforms publish an episode-to-volume mapping, so this page does not estimate how far the English comic has reached.

05

Three things that trip buyers up

  • Retailers mislabel the lines. At least one bookseller listing files ISBN 9798400902826 as “Vol. 6” of the novel; it is comic volume 6 (Mar 18, 2025). Both lines share a publisher and a title, so check the ISBN against the tables below, not the title.
  • Each novel volume has three ISBNs in the publisher's feed. Only one is the print paperback; the others are edition variants. The tables here carry the print ISBN-13, and the store links on the series pages are built from it.
  • The novel's English run is young. Volume 1 came out Jul 22, 2025; at the current pace there is a long way to the Korean ending. If a complete set is the goal, the comic is closer, but not complete either.

Questions people actually ask

Should I read the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint comic or the novel first?

The comic, unless you specifically want the original prose. In print it is further along (11 volumes out against the novel's 4), it is the version the coming anime is based on, and it is the same story. The novel is where the complete ending exists — in Korean; the English novel is at volume 4.

Is Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint finished?

The Korean novel is complete: its collected edition runs to 23 volumes on Naver Series. The Korean webtoon is listed as ongoing at 313 episodes on Naver Webtoon; press reported its first season ending at 311 chapters in May 2026. Neither English print line is finished: the comic has 13 volumes listed and the novel 5, both with more to come.

How many volumes of the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint comic are there in English?

13 are listed by Ize Press: 11 out as of 2026-10-11 and 2 on preorder (next Oct 20, 2026). Each is a $20 full-color paperback.

How many volumes of the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint novel are there in English?

5 are listed by Ize Press: 4 out as of 2026-10-11 and 1 on preorder (next Nov 24, 2026), at $16 each. The Korean collected edition is 23 volumes, so the English novel is early in the story.

Why does a retailer list ISBN 9798400902826 as the novel?

It is the comic's volume 6 (Mar 18, 2025, 288 pages). Retailer and library records sometimes drop “comic” or “novel” from the title; the ISBN is the only reliable way to tell the two lines apart, and the tables on this page carry only print ISBNs.
